Chocolate rice crispy cakes

Here is a lovely way to spend an hour or so with your little darling, it can get a bit messy but if they can’t get messy now then when can they? Chocolate rice crispy cakes are a sure fire classic and the earlier you get the wee ones in the kitchen the better in my opinion.

What you need:

  • Chocolate (200 grams or so)
  • Cup or so of rice crispies
  • Cake cases
  • Mixing bowl
  • Spatula
  • Pyrex bowl
  • Something to adorn the finished product, smarties / mini eggs, whatever
  • Nice music
  • Aprons
  • Wipes for hands and face

Just heatIMG_6240 some water in a wee sauce pan, over a medium / low heat and get a Pyrex bowl and break some chocolate into it. Heat the chocolate over the water, ensuring the water doesn’t hit the base of the saucepan (just looking for steam to melt chocolate) you can use any chocolate, I just mixed the stuff that was left over in my cupboard.. (Pah! I hear you say ‘left over’ chocolate)

The, grab your mixing bowl and spatula and take the chocolate off heat when runny…

Pour some rice crispies in the mixing bowl ( you can use corn flake type cereal too) then the chocolate and mix with spatula (just folding really) .. I would go connie (just use a bit to start) with the rice crispies to start with as you can always add more, much harder to take away. The just add more rice crispies if you want.. I like a good thick chocolate coating but this is personal preference..

Then embellish with whatever you have lying around, we used smarties and strawberry sugar crystals. Put in fridge, then give to friends and neighbours or eat the lot.

Obviously this isn’t an every day thing and we should l be eating healthily but they are still kids and these are a classic!

Who wouldn’t want their kid to have this look on their face?? ENJOY X
